To explore its significance and promote a collaborative environment for innovation, the highly anticipated Intellectual Property Meet-Up was held on the evening of the 29th of June 2023. The event commenced with an ice breaker where attendees described their life and professional journeys up until this point. Next up was the thought-provoking keynote address by renowned IP lawyer, Mr. Nkosiyabo Sibanda. His presentation emphasized the crucial role that intellectual property rights play in encouraging innovation, rewarding creators, and fostering economic growth. He shared insights into the different types of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, highlighting the importance of protecting these assets in a rapidly changing digital landscape. 

Following the keynote address, an engaging question and answer session panel discussions took place, providing a platform for experts to delve deeper into the challenges faced by innovators and creators in safeguarding their intellectual property. These discussions covered a wide range of topics, including how best to register their IP, and possible IP rights breaching scenarios amongst other topics. The participants also explored the evolving landscape of intellectual property in the digital realm, discussing issues such as online piracy and copyright infringement.

Mr. Sibanda focused on striking the right balance between promoting innovation and ensuring adequate protection for intellectual property. Participants discussed strategies for encouraging innovation without compromising the rights of creators and inventors.
